A Rock in the Hand is Worth Two in a Book: A Geological Field Investigation

Lace up your hiking boots and get ready for some field study work as we explore the geology of Virginia!  Educators who teach earth science will investigate topographical and geological maps, rock and mineral identification, structural geology measurements, geological cross-sections and more during field studies focusing on urban streams, Virginia’s beach and Eastern Shore regions, and the Blue Ridge and Piedmont regions. Resources for the classroom and career options to share with your students will also be provided.

Program dates and times: August 7, 9 and 11, 2017, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, August 8, 10, from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm
Location: MSiC Room E-14
Follow-up Activities: Novemeber 16, 2017, from 4:30pm to 7:00pm
Eligibility: Educators who will teach earth science in the 2017-2018 school year
  • Up to 45 recertification points based on completion of course

Educators from consortium member school divisions are eligible to participate free of charge.

Full Consortium Member School Divisions: Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Hanover, Henrico, King William, Petersburg, Powhatan and Richmond City.

Educators from institutional member school divisions may attend on a space-available basis with an additional fee of $675.00. Institutional Members School Divisions: Charles City, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hopewell and Prince George. Other educators may attend on a space-available basis with an additional fee of $1,350.00.

Priority registration date is May 24, 2017. Registration will continue to be accepted until all seats are filled
