A STEM Conference for Grade PreK-6 Educators

June 18-19, 2019 from 8:30am - 3:30pm

Meet and share with colleagues around the region during this 2-day STEM conference designed just for elementary teachers. Learn how to make interdisciplinary connections between science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and literature. Grade-specific sessions focused on the new thematic-based Science Standards, Picture Perfect STEM lessons, and the new Desmos online calculator required for the VA math assessment will be featured.  Join your colleagues for a fun-filled day of learning in context.

 Conference Strands

Creating Inclusive Classrooms
Sessions in this strand will focus on giving teachers strategies to support a wide range of students. Sessions may address inclusion, multilingual education, exceptional education and how to use differentiation and assets-based pedagogy to support all students.
Innovations in Integrated Learning
Empowering students through exploration and authentic experiences can be transformative for teaching and learning. Presentations in this strand highlight effective implementation of experiential, integrated learning, which may include design thinking, project-based learning, problem-based learning, and engineering design.
Making the Math Curriculum Come Alive
Sessions will explore mathematics resources for teaching core SOL concepts. Techniques for moving from the concrete to the abstract will be emphasized.
Using Technology as a Teaching Tool
Presentations in this strand will utilize technology as a medium for instruction. Opportunities to explore how computational thinking and game-based coding can create a dynamic learning experience in the classroom will be incorporated.


Geology Field Trip!

MSiC will be hosting our ever popular geology field trip as a double session offering during the conference.
      • Register online. Your registration will be confirmed prior to the opening date by email. If oversubscribed, teachers will be notified and placed on a waiting list. Late applications will be enrolled on a space-available basis.
      • Educators from member divisions are eligible to participate at a reduced rate.
      • Fees include lunch and snacks, a tote bag for session materials, a book, and 10 recertification points, in addition to the opportunity to network with colleagues and win door prize giveaways.
